Award-winning Somali writer Nuruddin Farah talks about his homeland: a failed state, a shattered by years of civil strife. Farah was born in Somalia and grew up in Ogaden, in eastern Ethiopia. He had to leave twice, first from Ogaden when war broke out, then from Somalia, where he was not free to write what he wanted. He has lived in exile for over 20 years, but returns regularly to Somalia. His novel Links has just been published in French.
