Goodluck Jonathan picks his vice-president, reports

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has picked Kaduna state governor Namadi Sambo as his vice president, an anonymous presidential source told Reuters news agency. Sambo, 58, a northerner who was elected governor of Kaduna state in 2007, is considered by some as a "uncharacteristic" politician as he is a newcomer to politics.

Sambo has not yet confirmed the appointment himself.

Other news outlets back up his appointment.

Jonathan was sworn in as president last week after the death of his predecessor Umaru Yar'Adua died.
