When five young London-based musicians went to Kenya on a charitable interactive music project in 2009, they scarcely imagined some four years later they would be playing support to Atoms of Peace - the latest project from Radiohead’s lead singer Thom Yorke. But Yorke fell for Owiny Sigoma’s unique sound – a captivating mix of London electro and Luo percussion from Kenya, in particular an East African lyre called the nyatiti. The band (five Brits and two Kenyans) recently released their second album Power Punch (Brownswood Records). As you’ll hear, the band lives up to its name.
