Suicide bomber kills at least 11 in Pakistan's Swat valley

A suicide attack in Pakistan’s Swat valley killed at least 11 people Saturday, a day after attacks in Lahore killed 57. Thirty-seven people are reported injured by the attack on the outskirts of Mingora, the main town in Swat.

Three security personnel and a nine-year-old child are among the dead in the Swat attack, local police say. 

The News newspaper puts the death toll at 13.

The death toll from two apparently coordinated suicide attacks in the city of Lahore on Friday has risen to 57. Five small bombs exploded later in the city.

Swat valley was the scene last  year of an anti-Taliban offensive, which appeared to have put an end to a two-year insurgency by the Islamists. The army now says that the area is safe and most of the two million people who fled the area have returned to their homes. But sporadic outbreaks of violence continue.

In Peshawar, the capital of North-West Frontier Province where Swat is situated, an anti-Taliban tribal leader from Mohmand district and two tribal police officers were killed by gunmen riding a motorcycle on Saturday.
