Hello everyone!

We’re going to experiment with our recipes – like all good cooks. Now you’ll hear if you won the quiz on Saturdays, at 5:16 universal time. Tune in on Sundays at 4:22, 5:52 and 7:22 universal time to hear the quiz question … and whatever else is cooking up in the Sound Kitchen …

Today’s quiz question was read on 15 May. The French were looking back at the career of a very important politician, who was elected President on 10 May, 1981. I asked you to send in the name of this president, as well as what distinguished him from other presidents.

The answer is: François Mitterrand. François Mitterrand was the first - and only - socialist president of France since the founding of the Fifth Republic, which is the current constitution of France, introduced in 1958. The Fifth Republic, by the way, is France’s third longest enduring regime, after the Ancien Régime and the Third Republic.

The winners this week are: Hamadu Haruna, from Nsawam Ghana; Mervin Masiano Areseb, from Windhoek, Namibia; Mr. Tom Okwi, of the Kumi Central RFI Club, in Kampala, Uganda; Chitturi Vamsi, from Hyderabad, India, and Soumita Paul from the Metali Listener’s Club, in Murshidabad, India.

Congratulations, winners!

This week’s quiz question is about Libya: a couple more countries announced this week that they recognise the rebel National Transitional Council - the NTC - as the sole legitimate representative of the Libyan people. There’s about 15 countries now … send me the names of two of them.

You have until 1 August to send in your answer. The answer and the winners will be announced on the 6 August programme. Be sure you send your postal address in with your answer … and let me know if you are a Mr. or a Mrs. or a Ms. or a Miss – I would hate to get it wrong!
