France condemns Iranian crackdown on demonstrators
The French foreign ministry on Tuesday condemned violence against protestors during Monday's anti-government rallies in Iran and called for the release of people arrested.

"France firmly condemns the violence committed against protestors and demands that people arrested be freed," said ministry spokesperson Bernard Valero.
He added that France "reiterates its commitment to freedom of expression".
Iranian authorities also came under fire from Spain on Tuesday, whose foreign ministry protested an incident in which a Spanish diplomat was detained for four hours.
Spanish media said the diplomat was detained by police outside the Spanish embassy in Tehran near where demonstrations were taking place.
Thousands of people demonstrated in the centre of Tehran on Monday at the call of opposition leaders Mir Hossein Moussavi and Mehdi Karoubi.
Police indicated one person was killed and nine injured during the protest.
