Song contest hopes to save struggling European languages

The 12 finalists at the Liet International concert,  in north-eastern Italy,  were hoping that by singing in minority languages, like Fresian, Sami and Gaelic, they might help preserve them. If the reaction of the 2,000-strong crowd on Saturday was anything to go by, these so-called dying languages are definitely not on life-support.
