German parliament approves Cyprus bailout

Issued on:

The German parliament has approved an international bailout package for Cyprus. The debt rescue, approved by a large majority, involves a radical restructuring of Cyprus's banking sector. The island's economy depends heavily on financial services and is expected to shrink by up to 12.5 per cent over the next two years. Cypriot economist Marios Zachariadis looks at the prospects now the bailout is secured.
