Women to be admitted to France's Pantheon

Issued on:

French President François Hollande has asked a committee to draw up a list of historical figures whose remains could be transferred to the Pantheon, where Victor Hugo, Voltaire and Rousseau are interred. And he has asked the list to include women, a move welcomed by feminist groups who have long argued that not enough women are honoured in the mausoleum. To drive home their point, they symbolically buried five women in the Pantheon last night.
