French opposition leader resigns over Sarkozy funding scandal
The leader of France's main opposition party - the centre-right UMP - resigned on Tuesday over a corruption scandal.

Several UMP party heavyweights, including Nicolas Sarkozy's former prime minister François Fillon demanded that UMP leader Jean-François Copé quit immediately.
The scandal embroiling Copé claims that invoices for former president Nicolas Sarkozy's election campaign were inflated and billed as party expenses.
His resignation will be effective on June 15.
