Working to overcome Gaza fuel shortage

Issued on:

For over a month, Gaza has lived with fuel shortages that have affected power supplies to more than 1.6 million residents. The problem is now political, as Egypt says it wants to transport fuel through an Israeli border crossing, but Hamas insists that supplies come through Gaza's Rafah border crossing. On 23 March, working with the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah and Egypt, Israel pumped several hundred thousands litres of industrial fuel to run Gaza's power plant.
