Libya's women begin to gain influence in politics

Issued on:

Two years after the start of the uprising which ousted Moamer Kadhafi, Libya's new rulers are under attack over the slow pace of reform, and protests are being organised for later this month. Back in July last year, the country held its first free elections in almost 40 years. Around thirty women were elected to become members of parliament. Their success spurred other women to become politically involved. RFI met some of these women in Tripoli and Zawiyah.
