Despite still recovering from decades of civil war and political turmoil, the country's renowned doctors are still in high demand. Many have trained in France, a highly desirable trait for surgeons in the Arab world. The country's former Prime Minister, Saad Hariri's cabinet collapsed in 2011, triggering concerns over Lebanon's security and causing a sharp drop in medical tourism to one of Beirut's leading industries. Some have likened the popularity of such procedures there to an 'epidemic'.
