Australia batsman run riot in second Test against West Indies

There was a landmark for the crowds enjoying Australia's second Test mauling of the West Indies in Melbourne. For the first time on home soil, four Australia batsmen hit centuries in the same innings.

Australia captain Steve Smith and Adam Voges virtually wrapped up the second Test against the West Indies on Sunday with centuries as Smith declared his side's first innings on 551 for three.

The pair batted throughout the second day of the match. Smith reached his sixth Test century of the year and 13th overall with 134 and Voges made 106.

On the first day of the Test, Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns hit 144 and 128 resepectively.

While the Australian batsman paraded their skills, their West Indian counterparts were abject. They were 91 for six at the close of play, 460 runs behind with three days left.

During a 223 run third wicket stand with Voges, Smith, who was recently named the ICC cricketer of the year, took over as the current leading run-scorer in Test cricket for 2015.

At the declaration he had scored 1,404 runs, ahead of England's Alastair Cook who has made 1,357 runs.

Voges also moved past 1,000 Test runs in his debut year with a total of 1,028 runs in his 18th Test innings. Only two other batsmen have scored 1,000 or more Test runs in their debut year: Australia's Mark Taylor with 1,219 (1989) and Cook with 1,013 (2006).

The Australians, who crushed the West indies by an innings and 212 runs in the first Test in Hobart Test will retain the Frank Worrell trophy with victory in Melbourne.
